Multi-faceted red rose
Her blue eyes were wide open with excitement. She wanted me to open the grocery store flower packaging immediately because she wanted to see the expression on my face. It was a single red long-stemmed rose. How do such young children know these things?
Each day I cut it back one inch on a slant to allow it to drink in clean water. In a couple of weeks the full-blossom will fill the plain glass rosebowl.
The sun beams in the kitchen right through the late afternoon. So I sprayed the rose with tiny drops of water and took a dozen or more photos from all angles. I don't know why but I just felt like placing a multi-faceted glass diamond in the centre, like those that decorate wedding party tables.
I had fun painting red poppies based on Georgia O'Keefe paintings and Web 2.0 shared photos and I just wanted to have more images of the textures, forms and light effects in the world of living petals.
56/365 - Immortal
On our wedding day we had these little succulents around the room to decorate the cocktail tables.
My mum gave me a clipping from her garden one day and being the awesome gardener that I am, I walked past my garden and shoved it down into the soil - incredibly it grew fabulously. So for our wedding we used them on the tables. Friends and family took pieces home and now have a little piece of our wedding growing in their yard. They are such a hardy plant and seem to grow no matter how terrible you are at gardening.
We also took a piece with us to our new home. Although it doesn't grow as well in our sandy dessert yard as it did in Kiama, it still lives on. Every time I walk by it, I think of my family, friends and my wedding day. Love it!
I had no idea what it was so I looked it up today and I think it is called an aeonium which comes from the greek work 'aionos' = immortal.
